Head of School Message

Greetings From GSA Head of School Sherrod Laws
“You Just Can’t Hide that Greenville Prep Pride”

Dear Greenville STEM Academy Scholars, Families, Teachers and Community,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the Head of School of Greenville STEM Academy. I am honored to be a part of what promises to be a very exciting journey as we strive to be the premier charter school in Pitt County, North Carolina. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to build upon the foundation of excellence for our young scholars.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for over a decade. I have worked with students ranging in age from kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of roles. I have been a Spanish teacher, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal and Principal across the Piedmont/Triad and Western North Carolina.

My initial goals are twofold: building and establishing trust with Greenville and the surrounding areas so that they choose Greenville STEM Academy as their school of choice. We will focus on community involvement and participating in community events in order to expose the community to our prominence. We will also focus on strong school culture and instructional leadership to move every student each day towards career and college readiness. We will focus on the skills our students need to be successful in school, on tests for careers and college, as well as service to the seniors in our community through our intergenerational focus.

Successful schools have very regular communication, community, and parent partnerships. An old African proverb states that “It takes a village.” As my partner in learning, thank you in advance for joining and being a part of the village to move students toward excellence. We will get to know your scholars to ensure they develop the academic foundation skills and positive character in preparation for high school.

I look forward to working with the Greenville STEM Academy teachers, staff, and community to ensure that we have a safe and very productive 2024-2025 as we #RISEtogether.

Sherrod L. Laws, M.Ed, MSA, Head of School
